This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Corporate Patient Safety Team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. As a key member of the team, the Patient Safety Manager play's a central role in supporting the Trust’s commitment to delivering safe, high‑quality care through learning, improvement and a strong restorative just culture.
The Patient Safety Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of the Trust’s patient safety agenda, working collaboratively with colleagues across all Care Groups to strengthen systems, processes and behaviours that support safe care. You will champion the NHS Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), support high‑quality incident investigations, and ensure robust analysis of patient safety data to identify themes, trends and opportunities for improvement.
In this role, the Patient Safety Manager will provide specialist advice on patient safety policy, incident management and learning responses, while supporting the Head of Patient Safety and Clinical Governance. The role will also involve deputising as required, including representing the team at internal and external meetings.
Main duties of the job
Oversee daily patient safety operations and ensure robust systems, policies and processes are in place to identify, manage and learn from safety risks. Act as the first point of escalation and represent the Patient Safety function at internal and external meetings, providing leadership across the governance structure. Ensure timely submission of PSIIs and manage data flow to STEIS and NRLS/LFPSE. Extract, interpret and present complex incident data, producing routine and ad hoc reports on themes, risks and learning. Work with Clinical Governance teams to identify themes, monitor actions, alerts and responses, and maintain master trackers and regulatory evidence. Manage and distribute NatPSA, MHRA and device alerts, ensuring compliance and producing quarterly CAS reports. Review and update Trust-wide patient safety policies to align with national frameworks. Deliver or support training, promote restorative just culture and learning from excellence, and provide expert advice on incident analysis and human factors. Oversee Datix use, supervise and appraise direct reports, resolve personnel issues, and support CQC returns, FOIs and compliance checks with high-quality and timely submissions.

2.EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. Level 2 HSIB Systems training – completed or underway (full score for completed/passed)
2. Evidence of continuing professional development of advanced data analytic skills with proficiency or current training in Power BI, or similar product
3. Evidence of extensive proficiency in a local risk management system such as Datix, Ulysses, Radar or similar product
4. Holds a relevant degree in a healthcare or governance or risk management related subject, or equivalent e.g. a proven track record working with patient safety/ governance responsibilities with strong patient safety element in a healthcare setting – minimum three years
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Minimum five year’s experience working within healthcare mostly within the NHS.
6. Experience of managing and appraising and/or setting objectives for direct report/s in a team.
7. Evidence of educating and/ or delivering training and presentations to individuals and groups, including creation of high quality training materials used by the organisation
8. Experience of leading training sessions for senior managers including Executives in relation to patient safety
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

9. Evidence of proficiency with Excel functions and data manipulation and with other Microsoft packages e.g. Word, PowerPoint
10. Evidence of writing and contributing to policies and procedures relating to governance policies
