Senior Electrical Design Engineer – BESS & Renewable EPC Projects - Glasgow, United Kingdom
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the electrical design process for renewable energy projects.
* Develop detailed electrical designs including single-line diagrams (SLDs), equipment layouts, technical specifications, and schedules.
* Prepare scopes of work for EPC/ICP subcontractors and oversee tender evaluation and contract award processes.
* Provide technical oversight during project construction, including contractor management, design reviews, programme tracking, and stakeholder coordination.
* Contribute technical input to commercial contracts and agreements to mitigate project risks.
* Manage multiple projects concurrently, maintaining alignment with time, budget, and quality targets.
* Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants.
* Prepare and review technical documentation and engineering reports.
* Support procurement processes related to major electrical equipment.
* Review subcontractor deliverables for technical compliance and quality.
* Conduct site visits to prospective and active construction sites.
* Contribute to business development initiatives in partnership with the Business Development team.
* Assist with bid preparation and tendering activities.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
* Proven expertise in electrical balance of plant (BoP) design, with understanding of associated civil and mechanical interfaces.
* Proficiency with electrical system modelling tools such as DigSilent, PSCAD, or similar, and experience in producing system studies (load flow, short circuit, reactive power analysis, energization, cable sizing, etc.).
* Familiarity with CAD software (preferred).
* Competence with project and document management tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel, Word, Procore).
* Solid understanding of the UK Grid Code, and design and compliance requirements.
* Knowledge of relevant UK design standards, building regulations, and DNO/DSO standards.
* Awareness of CDM Regulations and the roles/responsibilities of Principal Designers and Principal Contractors.
* Strong project delivery and engineering management skills.
* Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
* Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (minimum bachelor's level).
* Full UK driving licence, with willingness and ability to travel to project sites across the UK.
