Role: Mechanical Designer
Hours: 40 hours per week

We're looking for a Mechanical Designer to support the design and delivery of large-scale low‑carbon energy systems, including heat pump installations, packaged plantrooms, and energy centres.
The role will focus on developing detailed mechanical designs for complex building services infrastructure, supporting decarbonisation projects across NHS, public sector, and commercial environments.
Role Responsibilities
* Produce detailed mechanical designs for heat pump systems (ASHP, GSHP, water‑source), energy centres, district heating systems, large‑scale plantrooms, and packaged units
* Develop and coordinate pipework layouts, plantroom arrangements, system schematics, and hydraulic designs including LTHW/CHW systems, thermal stores, and pumping arrangements
* Generate GA drawings, fabrication drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and schematic diagrams
* Work closely with design engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are buildable and aligned with project specifications, British Standards, and client requirements
* Support value engineering, optimisation of plantroom layouts and system efficiency, and participate in design reviews, technical workshops, and site surveys
* Follow all health and safety policies and procedures, report risks or deficiencies, and ensure proper use of PPE and equipment
* Ensure compliance with information security procedures, identify and report risks, and elevate any suspected incidents
Required Qualifications
* Proven experience in mechanical design within building services, energy, or M&E environments
* Strong knowledge of heat pumps, low‑carbon heating systems, plantroom design, and energy centre layouts
* Good understanding of mechanical plant including pumps, PHEs, valves, pressurisation units, and associated infrastructure
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, schematics, and experience with hydraulic design principles and system integration
* Strong understanding of decarbonisation strategies and energy efficiency solutions
