 
        
        Hardware Engineering Manager - Electronics
Join us as the Hardware Engineering Manager – Electronics at Portal Londrinatur. This role is located in Glasgow, Scotland, and offers a hybrid working model.
Overview
Thales UK delivers advanced defence and security systems worldwide. In this role you will lead a team of electronics engineers, driving the complete hardware solution lifecycle from concept through to integration and support, while ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, performance, and quality commitments.
Key Responsibilities
 * Hardware Development Cycle: Define and manage the hardware development cycle, ensuring alignment with project and system requirements and coordinating co‑engineering activities.
 * Engineering Environment: Customize processes, practices, and tools to meet company and project‑specific needs.
 * Task Allocation: Distribute responsibilities among team members, manage day‑to‑day activity, and negotiate cross‑project priorities.
 * Architecture & Interface Definition: Participate in system architecture development, allocate functions to hardware components, and generate specifications and verification plans.
 * Work Package Management: Oversee work package responsibilities, including bid generation, estimates, and electronic solution consultancy.
 * Technical Direction: Provide technical direction, manage risks, lead fault‑finding activities, and drive improvement projects.
 * Collaboration: Engage with multidisciplinary teams (systems, mechanical, software, safety) to develop optimal solutions.
 * Team Development: Mentor junior staff, propose improvements, and provide quality development discussions.
Essential Qualifications And Skills
 * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
 * Proven experience in hardware development and engineering management.
 * Strong understanding of hardware life‑cycle processes from requirements to validation.
 * Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
 * Experience in schematic capture (Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or similar).
 * Full product lifecycle experience from concept to integration/qualification and support.
 * Ability to innovate, influence design approaches, and audit multiple projects simultaneously.
 * Experience defining policies and guidelines for engineering teams.
Desirable Attributes
 * Product knowledge of lasers and cameras.
 * Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with electronics advancements.
 * Experience with ISO9001‑compliant engineering management systems.
 * Level 6 qualification in a hardware engineering related discipline (e.g., BEng(Hons) Electronics).

Security Clearance
