The appointee will provide cellular pathology and non-gynaecology cytology services on a sessional basis to the Trust. Sub-specialisation and MDT attendance will be determined after appointment in discussion with peers and based on service needs.
Direct clinical activity will include cellular pathology reporting, preparation, and presentation at MDTs. Providing a specialist service to complement current post holders and meet the trust's needs will be strongly encouraged.
Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, improve patient health and wellbeing, and create a vibrant environment for staff development, innovation, and career building.
We aim to utilize our skills and experiences fully to become the best we can be. As one organization, we will recruit top talent and retain more specialists through expanded employment opportunities across our Trust.
The Pathology service is provided by Pathology First, a joint venture between Southend Hospital pathology, Basildon Hospital pathology, and private partner iPP (Integrated Pathology Partnerships).
Formed in 2014, all technical laboratory staff are employed by iPP, while clinical staff remain employed by the Trust. The joint venture is clinically led, with the Trust overseeing the clinical aspects of the service. Traditional laboratory departments, including cellular pathology, clinical chemistry, haematology (and blood transfusion), immunology, and microbiology, continue to operate within Southend Pathology.
The Trust is in the process of integrating a single pathology service across its three hospital sites. As part of this specialist provision, the post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team and attend its cancer subgroup meetings. Responsibilities will be reviewed periodically with potential adjustments for mutual benefit.
