This role is all about shaping the systems that underpin real-time insights and smarter decision-making – and empowering a high-performing team to deliver it. You'll collaborate with analysts, scientists, and stakeholders to design fast, scalable pipelines and shape the data architecture that fuels innovation. What You'll Be Doing: Lead a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support. Oversee the build and optimisation of scalable data pipelines and robust ETL workflows. Partner with teams across the business to gather data requirements and deliver accessible, reliable datasets. Champion best practices in data quality, governance, and platform security. Modernise and evolve the data platform using emerging technologies for performance, scale, and automation. Contribute to strategic planning around real-time data, advanced analytics, and machine learning enablement. Ensure your team delivers to a high standard, on time, and aligned with wider business priorities. Foster a culture of curiosity, ownership, and collaboration across the data team. What You'll Need to Bring: Proven experience in data engineering (5 years), with at least 2 in a people leadership role. Hands-on experience with data warehouse solutions such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery. Strong command of SQL and programming languages like Python, Scala, or Java. Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Airflow, Fivetran, dbt) and cloud data stacks (AWS/GCP/Azure). A deep understanding of data modelling, access controls, and infrastructure performance tuning. A background in managing agile teams and delivering complex projects in fast-moving environments. Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Bonus Points If You Have: Exposure to streaming frameworks like Kafka or Kinesis. Experience building ML pipelines or supporting data science workflows. Familiarity with containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
