Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Chief registrar will focus on addressing key local challenges and priorities, which may include some or all of the following: Non Clinical • Service Improvement ( redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and looking at ways to improve flow and patient experiences) • Providing a 'bridge' between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale. • Service improvement, for example redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and establishing new services to improve flow and outcomes for patients. • Link closely with the education team to provide and deliver high quality training and educational materials for all grades. • Involvement in workforce planning • Working across teams and boundaries to engage stakeholders in quality improvement and influence change. • Attend departmental meetings and work closely with the consultant body. Clinical Whilst on duty the appointee will be clinically and professionally responsible for their patients. It will also be their duty to: • The candidate will take on the responsibility of making decisions at a senior level. • Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition • Involve patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) in decision making about their treatment • Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) and comply in particular with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time; • Carry out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their Job Plan e.g. the keeping of records and the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks, maintaining skills and knowledge. • Carry out initial assessments, investigations and manage patients in the Emergency Department • Supervise clinically in the department • Participate in teaching for junior medical staff and nursing staff • Admit and discharge patients safely from the Emergency Department Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients in the Emergency Department • Work flexibility between all areas of the department. • Participate in the running of the department Person specification Training & Qualifications Essential criteria Basic Medical Degree FRCEM intermediate or equivalent Full GMC Registration Experience Essential criteria Completed Emergency Medicine CT3 by August 26. Evidence of progress towards career goal Desirable criteria Previously worked at ST4 level or above in Emergency Medicine Commitment to extended leadership role Teaching qualification (e.g. ALS instructor, PG cert. Medical Education) Communication and relationship skills Essential criteria Evidence of good communication skills and collaborative working Able to work as part of a team under pressure Desirable criteria Evidence of previous public speaking/presentations Management and Judgement skills Essential criteria Experience in mentoring peers Understanding of the NHS, its strategy and current issues pertinent to Emergency Medicine Able to follow UHL policies and guidance Skills Essential criteria Effective & efficient time management Organisational skills Desirable criteria Knowledge of Nervecentre Planning and organisation skills Essential criteria Evidence of involvement in an audit Additional Information Please submit your application form without delay to avoid disappointment; we will close vacancies prior to the publishing closing date if we receive a sufficient number of completed application forms. Disclosure and Barring Service Check Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check. The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
