This is an exciting opportunity for a new dispenser to join our team. We are a small surgery serving a population of 6,500 patients. As part of the dispensary team, you will be the first point of contact for medication questions or issues that patients need help with. Customer service is integral to this role, and the ability to cope under pressure in a busy environment is essential.
The dispensary team works closely with our doctors and nurses to support patients in managing their medications effectively.
We hold bi-monthly team meetings where you will be encouraged to participate, contributing to the development of the team and practice processes.
For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to progress into a team leader role.
We are looking for 16-24 hours per week, over 2-3 days, with some shifts finishing around 6:30/7 pm.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities include ensuring that all patient medication requests are processed safely and promptly, monitoring stock levels, and addressing supply issues proactively.
Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills are important. You will work collaboratively with all team members to provide the best possible care within available resources.

We serve a population of 6,500 patients, with 3,000 of these being dispensed to due to the rural location. The village is known for its horse racing, and is within 20 minutes of Swindon and Newbury, and just 10 minutes from junctions 14 and 15 of the M4.

Job responsibilities
The core responsibilities of the Dispenser include:
* Checking all medicines dispensed for discrepancies
* Dispensing medicines safely and accurately
* Collecting prescription charges as per protocol
* Maintaining stock levels and liaising with the dispensary manager for reordering
* Receiving and storing supplies, maintaining the cold chain when necessary
* Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed according to policy
* Safely disposing of out-of-date medicines
* Processing all repeat prescriptions within 48 hours
* Providing advice to patients on prescriptions
* Processing prescription requests via various channels
* Assisting in monthly returns preparation
* Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
* Keeping accurate records and reading coding entries appropriately
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Grades 4-9 in English and Maths
* Work experience in a GP surgery or pharmacy
