What is the job role?
This is a great time to be working in Rough Sleeping and Housing Support. Coventry’s Rough Sleeping team have been operating for over 5 years now and each year we see new challenges and new opportunities, and it is never boring. If you want to support some of our city’s most vulnerable people and help others who have worked with the rough sleeper team and have successfully secured social housing tenancies to learn tenancy management skills this is the role for you.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
Who are we looking for?
The role involves working in community settings and to work flexibly on occasions across the week to meet the needs of the service which may include some early mornings, evenings, and weekends, and relies on the whole team working flexibly as necessary. Use of your own car is desirable.
To be successful in this role you need to have:
1. Knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by homeless people, including adults with multiple and complex needs and/or no recourse to public funds.
2. Knowledge and understanding of the issues of sustaining tenancies faced by people with a history of rough sleeping and repeated homelessness, including adults with multiple and complex needs and/or no recourse to public funds.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills; being able to really listen to people and understand their situation and needs.
4. Experience in working with people with complex backgrounds or those with multiple and complex needs
5. Excellent negotiating and advocacy skills
6. Ability to assess people’s needs and complete risk assessments
7. Ability to work effectively in partnership with multiple partner services
8. Ability to lone work and manage own day to day caseload
9. Ability to deal positively with conflict and work to avoid situations escalating.
10. Willingness to attend service users’ tenancies on a weekly basis to offer tenancy sustainment support.
