Licensing Standards Officer (Alcohol)
17.5 hours per week

£34, - £36, pro rata / £18.81 - £20.27 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)
We are seeking a suitable person to be the Council’s Licensing Standards Officer to help the Council meet the statutory duties under the Licensing (Scotland) Act .
Reporting directly to the Service Manager, you will have responsibility for a busy and varied caseload of licensing standards (alcohol) work throughout Orkney. You will respond to consultations on licence applications, undertake your own inspections of licensed premises along with taking the necessary actions to provide information, guidance and support to ensure compliance and that risks are appropriately managed.
You will have the confidence to plan and manage your own casework and conflicting demands with limited management supervision, working with partner agencies and other Council services as appropriate. Out of hours work will be necessary, in order to visit licensed premises during trading hours, so you will need a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout Orkney.
The postholder will be eligible for a variety of benefits, including 34 days annual leave (increasing to 39 days over 5 years) inclusive of Public Holidays (pro-rata), Local Government Pension Scheme, Maternity, Paternity and Sick Pay, Supported to Work and Earn Whilst Achieving Qualification, Employee Assistance Programme and also Flexi-time.
You must be qualified to SCQF level 5 i.e. SVQ2, Higher or equivalent. You will also need to hold the Scottish LSO qualification or be willing to achieve this within 6 months of commencing in the post.
You must be eligible to work in the UK as sponsorship is not available for this post.
