Cranleigh STEM is excited to partner exclusively with an innovative start-up focusing on CO2 capture technology. The company is currently recruiting a Senior Mineralogist to develop new technology areas and contribute to the company IP for CO2 carrier technologies. You will be educated to PhD level in Mineralogy, or a related subject, or have the equivalent experience attached to a relevant MSc. You will have extensive experience in cement or concrete chemistry coupled with mineral carbonation knowledge.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independent self-starter who can develop new technology areas that leverage existing capabilities and expertise, including CO2 carrier.
Contribute to the company IP for CO2 carrier technologies.
Contribute to the funded grant project proposals - e.g. Innovate UK, European Innovation Council, UKRI, Horizon Europe.
Plan, procure and manage the chemical laboratory in line with regulations.
Utilisation of cement/concrete chemistry knowledge for carbon capture and utilisation in concrete
Evaluation of carbon capture and utilization (CCU) techniques on the properties and long-term performance of cement-based materials
Conduct cost-benefit analysis and LCA of the material developedPERSON'S SPECIFICATIONS
Essential:
5+ years post PhD experience leading independent research, ability to design and conduct research addressing fundamental scientific questions
Experience managing team and budget.
Demonstrated knowledge of concrete and cement chemistry, with a focus on mineral carbonation.
Understanding of laboratory setup, HSE requirements, experience in equipment specification development and procurement
Understanding carbonation mechanisms, and critical assessment of CO2 uptake
Extensive experience in CCUS, particularly with the carbonation of minerals and phase identification techniques.
Understanding concrete and cement chemistry
R&D experience in carbonation of minerals and phase identification
Desirable:
PI or co-PI on academic research projects or equivalent industrial experience.
Experience in computational modelling
Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) technologies
Patent writing and grant proposal development
Mineralisation of CO2 for various applications
