Job Overview
Locum Consultant Psychiatrist – Deaf CAMHS (6 PAs). Duration: 3–6 months. Part‑time Consultant post providing clinical input to children and young people in Cambridge and East of England referred to the National Deaf CAMHS Service.
Main Duties
* Provide specialist support for deaf children with neurodevelopmental needs.
* Manage ADHD cases requiring ongoing medication monitoring and reviews.
* Contribute to the ASD pathway through participation in ADOS assessments and consensus discussions.
* Collaborate with care coordinators to ensure medical oversight and liaison with local CAMHS for higher risk cases.
* Offer support to children and young people where mental health problems and deafness co‑exist.
* Assist in promoting social inclusion, reducing isolation, and improving access to inclusive education.
* Advise on safe inclusive education and healthy peer relationships.
Qualifications
* Primary medical degree.
* Full GMC registration.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for such inclusion within three months of completing CCT.
* Section 12 (2) approval of the Mental Health Act.
* MRCPsych, or equivalent, and CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
* Qualifications in a talking therapy such as CBT, DBT or MBT.
* Qualifications in change management and service development.
* Additional higher degree or further training relevant to the post.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum three years full‑time training in an approved higher psychiatric training scheme.
* Detailed knowledge of main treatment approaches for severe mental illness including pharmacological interventions.
* Experience with the CPA process, risk assessment and risk management.
* Experience teaching medical and non‑medical staff, including those without formal qualifications.
* Evidence of service planning, development, and working with third‑sector partners.
* Experience in research, outcome studies, and publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
Teaching Experience
* Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry.
* Teaching qualification and evidence of positive student feedback.
