Are you passionate about protecting communities and want to help make our environment a better place? If you would like to make a tangible difference in the environment of 6.2 million people across the West Midlands every day, this is the role for you.
We’re looking for a high‑performing individual to help shape delivery of outcomes across the West Midlands. As our Environment Planning and Engagement (EPE) Manager you will lead our Executive Coordination Management team and provide a high‑quality Communication and Engagement service for the West Midlands area and our customers. You will be focused on the day‑to‑day running of our business, ensuring we make the best use of our resources and demonstrating efficiency and effectiveness.
This role is fundamental to our whole Area Leadership Team, driving integrations across our remit and our West Midlands culture. Your work will be conducted in a high‑freedom environment that supports the well‑being of our people and embraces inspirational leadership.
We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share. As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Additional training and alternative working arrangements will be available.
As a leader you’ll be an active and visible member of the Area Leadership Team (ALT) inside and outside the organisation, role‑modeling our leadership behaviours and creating an inclusive environment where people can be their best. The successful candidate will work closely with all ALT and take responsibility for their own remit.
Experience and skills required
 * Authentic leader with a strong team focus, believing great leadership is fundamental to protecting people and the environment.
 * Passionate about developing individuals and teams, fostering an open, inclusive and trusting culture where everyone can be themselves.
 * Excellent stakeholder management, strong customer focus and effective influencing skills across public, private, large and small organisations.
 * Strategic thinker with the ability to spot links and connections, simplifying complex structures to deliver what matters most.
 * Ambassador for the West Midlands, confident and successful communicator acting as the gateway to the organisation.
We value a diverse workforce. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates who are under‑represented across our workforce. Please include your preferred working arrangements on your application.
Interviews will be held on 17 & 18 November 2025 at our Birmingham office, Aqua House 20 Lionel St, B3 1AQ. Reasonable adjustments are allowed upon request. For further information, please contact Marc Lidderth, West Midlands Area Director via wmdexecutiveoffice@environment-agency.gov.uk.
