Job summary
Pharmacy technicians play an important role, complementing clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists, and other members of the PCN multidisciplinary team. They do not prescribe or make clinical decisions but work under supervision to ensure effective and efficient use of medicines. Core responsibilities include clinical, technical, and administrative tasks. The role aims to improve prescribing practices to enhance patient care, including medication switching, optimizing repeat prescribing, and reducing waste.
The role also involves promoting medicines optimisation principles within the practice and supporting national initiatives, NICE guidelines, and medicines optimisation programs.

Main duties of the job
* Conduct patient-facing and supporting roles to promote effective medicine use through shared decision-making.
* Perform medicines optimisation tasks such as medication administration checks, reviews, and reconciliation.
* Manage shared care protocols and collaborate with Clinical Pharmacists for complex cases. Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
* Assist the multidisciplinary team in following medicines optimisation processes.
* Implement efficient ordering, return processes, and reduce medication wastage. Provide training on legal and safe handling of medicines, including EPS.
* Support reception teams in streamlining prescription requests for GPs and pharmacists.

Who We're Looking For
Registered with the Association of Pharmacy Technicians NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent experience. Experience in a patient-facing clinical pharmacy or pharmacy setting. Proficiency with IT systems, including Microsoft Office and clinical systems. Ability to follow procedures, work in busy environments, and meet deadlines.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Engage in patient-facing roles to support effective medicine use through shared decision-making.
* Carry out medicines optimisation tasks, including inhaler technique checks, medication reviews, and reconciliation.
* Use consultation skills to ensure effective medicine use.
* Support Clinical Pharmacists with structured medication reviews and necessary monitoring tests.
* Address public health and social care needs, providing lifestyle advice and tackling health inequalities.
* Manage shared care protocols and collaborate with pharmacists for complex cases.
* Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
* Ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes and reduce wastage.
* Provide training on safe medicines handling and EPS implementation.
* Promote electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering.
* Build relationships with other pharmacy and healthcare professionals to support integrated care.
* Assist reception teams with prescription request management.
* Support implementation of prescribing policies and compliance with standards.
* Monitor high-risk drugs and oversee PPA drug claims process.
