Purpose of the Role You will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing and production teams by resolving challenges experienced in the manufacture and servicing of our product lines, such as sensors, alternators, electronic control systems, powertrain invertors and interface units designed primarily for the motorsport market. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and form close working relationships with other Engineering functions, Product Management and Production Teams. Principle Accountabilities Address Improvement Logs raised by the production team relating to design, tooling or drawing changes. Be responsible for correcting non-conformances related to tooling, documentation or product design. Servicing requests for new or replacement production tooling/jigs, improving quality. Provide assistance to the Production and Quality teams in 8D investigations. Support, investigate, repair and maintain the production test equipment and tooling including our automated systems. Use a data-led approach to improve the McLaren Applied product range in production and collaborate with Product Managers and Production Managers to prioritise. Primarily operate in the postproduction launch phase of a products lifecycle. Where required implement design changes to industry standards and best practices. Be capable of updating specifications, drawings and create production build and test instructions. Where design changes have been implemented, test and validate that the specification has been met. Operate within a multi-disciplinary team, primarily focussed in the motorsport industry. Support activity planning, budget estimates and take an active role in customer technical discussions where required. Plan, manage and account for your time. Anticipate any issues which might affect delivery progress and proactively address these, escalating for support if required. Communicate with clarity to key stakeholders at all levels of our business, customer organisations and supply partners. Share and articulate complex technical solutions with peers and non-engineering colleagues, such that others can easily understand, build and evolve your ideas collaboratively. Write technical requirements, specifications, processes and other documentation to a high standard. Produce and confidently deliver impactful presentations to internal and external audiences. Drive your career development proactively as part of a structured appraisal and feedback process. Identify and undertake learning and development opportunities and actively manage a continuous professional development plan. Provide input into team strategy discussions, taking a shared responsibility for the team's growth, capability development and external image. Help to continually improve our team's processes and enhancements to our toolsets. We would love to hear from you if you have : BEng or MEng Mechanical Engineering degree, or similarly related degree, or equivalent relevant industry experience. Excellent Electronic Engineering foundation, with the ability to solve problems from first principles and hand calculations. Demonstrable experience of applying a data-led engineering approach to iterate designs, with an appreciation of computational analysis methods such as FEA. Proficient with parametric 3D CAD modelling tools for both solid and surface modelling, ideally using Siemens SolidEdge or Siemens NX. Familiar with applying drawing standards to create and check detailed part and assembly drawings. Experience of creating parts and managing bill of materials in MRP systems and/or Enterprise PLM systems such as Siemens Teamcenter would be an advantage. Knowledge of commonly used metallic, plastic and composite engineering materials. Experience of making material selections balancing competing factors such as cost, manufacturing constraints, design intent and aesthetics. Knowledge and experience of applying DfM and DfA principles, with a good understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes such as CNC milling, turning, casting, sheet metal, moulding and additive manufacture rapid prototyping. Comfortable speaking with customers to support existing designs. Appreciation of company brand value and consistently working to high design standards.
