About the role
In this role you will be responsible for the technical expertise of our Regional Underwriters across our Personal Lines product range (Motor & Personal). You will contribute to our Personal Lines underwriting strategy, implement it locally, monitor key account performance measures and set technical standards. Working collaboratively with our Head Office teams and NFU Mutual tied Agents, you will be the referral point for the most complex risks, holding the most senior underwriting authority within the Regional Team. You will also feed in market trends and analysis to enable the organisation to respond proactively, and provide your technical opinion on policy wordings and product development to ensure our products remain competitive.
Leading a technical team of Senior Technical Underwriters, you will work with them to drive technical capability of our Regional Underwriters, enabling them to be intuitive and maximize their contribution to business objectives.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical expertise and oversight for Regional Underwriters.
* Develop and implement the Personal Lines underwriting strategy locally.
* Monitor key account performance measures and set technical standards.
* Serve as referral point for complex risks and hold senior underwriting authority.
* Analyze market trends, regulatory changes and provide input for product development.
* Lead and mentor a technical team of Senior Technical Underwriters.
Qualifications & Experience
* Established background in Personal Lines underwriting with in‑depth market knowledge.
* Experience handling complaints, escalations and complex referrals for Home & Motor, Reinsurance, Flood Re and large Sum‑Insured exposures.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Track record of coaching, mentoring and driving high performance within a team.
* Commercial awareness to ensure underwriting decisions support business objectives and customer outcomes.
* Experience delivering KPIs, projects and objectives.
* Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills.
* Prior senior Underwriter or underwriting managerial positions within a Personal Lines specialism.
* Capability to attend either our Bristol or York offices 40% of the working week.
