Job overview
Critical Care in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment.
A new 24-bed Critical Care facility has opened at the Willian Harvey Hospital, which includes bespoke training facilities, dedicated space for high fidelity simulation training, state of the art echocardiography equipment and critical care ultrasonography simulation training facilities.
This locum post is aimed at candidates with either single specialty in ICM or with an interest in Anaesthesia.
Main duties of the job
The new Critical Care facility opened in Spring 2022. The facility has spacious, light-filled patient accommodation, 8 negative pressure isolation rooms with positive pressure lobbies, a state-of-the art simulation suite and large multidisciplinary seminar and handover room with high-definition screens for teaching and video conferencing. It houses a large staff common room and rest facilities, on-call rooms and extensive office space.
East Kent Critical Care is a vibrant department, admitting around 1,000 patients each year. Many come to us after suffering an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and in cardiogenic shock, allowing our clinicians to use their strong clinical expertise in echocardiography and point of care ultrasonography.
The unit is equipped with the latest technology, including echocardiography equipment and Intellivent Adaptive Support Ventilation. The department has a strong reputation for ultrasound and echocardiography training, and a burgeoning research portfolio.
