Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead our development teams in delivering innovative software solutions. The successful candidate will oversee multiple projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure the delivery of high-quality application development. This role offers an excellent opportunity to influence technological strategies and foster a collaborative environment within a fast-paced organisation. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills combined with extensive technical expertise in various programming languages and development frameworks.
Responsibilities
1. Maintain, build and manage the Software Systems team whose function is to:
a. Collaborate with stakeholders in the definition of Business needs and system requirement definition. Translate business needs and/or product requirements into well-defined technical requirements/sub-system requirements.
b. Identify, select, develop, test, prototype, refine and productionise, Software and Firmware design solutions that full-fill technical and system requirements.
c. Assess design solutions (including those of others) for suitability, issues, risks and improvement opportunities.
d. Resolve, collaborate in the resolution of issues, risks, improvement opportunities and or effectively communicate these within the team, project stakeholders and leadership where necessary
1. To vision and architect; machine software control systems, user interfaces, customer experiences and interactions of Flavia equipment with connected systems and services.
2. Directly or through the team Plan and manage software workstreams to ensure in-scope, on-time, and on-cost development and delivery for all projects and manage the necessary communication amongst development partners, stakeholders, and project sponsors.
3. Lead the development and integration of Flavia machines with external software and service systems for Cloud based IoT services, payment and auditing systems.
4. Define and ensure the robust management of Software engineering related OPEX and CAPEX budgeting and expenditure within projects and the department.
5. Act as a team member of the Equipment Leadership Team in defining product development and delivery strategies to steer the equipment development function representing the Software engineering discipline
6. Selection, recruitment, briefing, directing and management of external development partners where they are required to supplement the internal team capabilities.
7. Develop direct reports and team members to enable individuals to perform to the required standard. Provide job enrichment and continued professional and personal development of associates within the department and foster a high performance, collaborative team working environment
8. Ensure optimal Software engineering resource availability across all phases of the product lifecycle, while sustaining the talent pipeline through effective succession management and definition of a career ladder through the Software working group.
9. Be the single point of accountability for engineering design integrity and robustness of Software systems for Flavia machines products and provide technical leadership to resolve quality and supply issues originating from specification of Software systems and components and if necessary, direct changes to the design and manufacturing specifications.
10. Translate Product Briefs and/or design requirement specifications into Software system specifications that support effective product engineering delivery.
11. Direct the creation and definition of Software and Firmware architectures, system/sub system requirements and component specifications for all platform and their associated products.
12. Define develop and continuously improve the Software Engineering design, processes, standards, systems, and infrastructure to ensure consistent delivery of value and knowledge capture including the Software development and PDM systems.
13. Drive compliance with and continuously improve the safe working policies, standards and systems followed in the Software systems, product testing and workshop areas within the development centre.
14. Represent the Flavia machines R&D as Software discipline leader in quality management reviews and product incidents.
Skills, qualifications and technical experience required
· Honors degree in Software or Computer Science Engineering. An advance degree in engineering, or a certification in product quality systems is a plus.
· Embedded software engineering with strong control theory in electro-mechanical products.
· Strong networking and communications design and development experience including embedded local and wide area networks.
· Knowledge and experience of IoT and network security.
· Proven record in designing and implementing flexible fault tolerant systems.
· Customer focused consumer, user and product requirements capture and specification and delivery against their expectations.
· User Interface/User Experience design theory and implementation for embedded and non-embedded products.
· Line management of a team of engineers acting in multidiscipline engineering areas.
· Knowledge and experience of multiple Software Development Life Cycle models.
· Defining and managing projects using standard project management tools.
· Product engineering and new product introduction processes.
· Design management and implementation of software controlled electromechanical products and technologies.
· Creating detailed documentation on projects and product specifications.
· Competency in multiple software engineering languages and development systems.
Expert in wide range of computer office software as well as project management tools.
