The Senior Engineer, who plays a key role in overseeing civil engineering projects with an annual turnover of £10 million.
This individual is responsible for the technical management and execution of the project while leading a team of 2 to 4 section engineers, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance throughout the construction process.
Key Responsibilities & Objectives:
1 Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability
1. Prepare, check / approve method statements and risk assessments ensuring that appropriate priority is given to the public and that third party approvals are obtained where necessary.
2. Assist with the preparation of project environmental procedures and ensure that systems are implemented to satisfy contractual and statutory requirements, liaising with third parties, such as the Environmental Agency,
2 Dimensional/Spatial Control
3. Reviews how achievable, suitable and compatible the specified tolerances are & gets amended as required
4. Reviews & changes proposed construction methods to ensure compliance with specified or stated tolerances
5. Determines and implements the most appropriate methods for primary & secondary control on the project
6. Supervises, provides training and ensures competence of those carrying out dimensional control tasks
7. Provides advice and assistance in resolution of survey and dimensional control issues
3 Workmanship, Quality, Inspection & Testing
8. Reviews ITPs to ensure they correctly interpret the specified quality requirements and improves as necessary
9. Ensures that sub-contractors quality procedures comply with company / contract quality requirements and carries out audits as necessary
10. Determines remedial actions for non-conformances and ensures that these are approved and implemented
11. Ensure that NCR are satisfactorily closed out & that appropriate controls are applied to prevent reoccurrence
12. Produces construction / installation details which improve build-ability compatibility and minimise risk of later construction issues
13. Manages the production of quality assurance information for inclusion in the construction records
14. Takes responsibility for ensuring that company & project quality requirements procedures are implemented
4 Information, Change Control & Records
15. Records change requests from the client including any abortive work as a result of the request
16. Ensures information provided to the facility accounts for any change
17. Assists project engineer with this as per their job role
5 Permanent Works Materials, Products, Plant & Systems
18. Assists project engineer with this as per their job role
6 Construction Methods, Practices and Innovation
19. Challenges existing methods / procedures being used
20. Evaluates alternative solutions & proposed innovations to determine if they are more effective than current methods
21. Drives priority for improvement to software being developed for the facility
22. Initiates 3D modelling to develop methods, clarify issues and resolve method related problems
23. In respect to methods, carries out value engineering; understands the financial and client implications of de-scoping and constantly strives to add value to our projects
24. Is instrumental in finding alternative solutions to existing methods and practices to improve productivity, quality or safety helping to create best practice
25. Produces method statements for complex and high-risk operations such as those affecting the public
26. Approves method statements and risk assessments, evaluating them and suggesting improvements
27. Develops site practice such that method statements are always followed
7 Temporary Works/Systems & Cranes
28. Produces design briefs for the temporary works in their area
29. Carries out the role of Temporary Works Inspector (TWI) for complex temporary works ensuring compliance with company procedures
30. Carries out the role of Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) for projects involving standard temporary works is Deputy TWC for complex projects ensuring compliance with company procedures
31. Applies a standard rule set of temporary works designs to a range of product
8 Design Process, Coordination and Management
32. Attend early-stage model detailing reviews and confirm compliance with the facility capability
33. Provides guidance to detailers on how to best align the cages with facility requirements
34. Inputs into cage triage and sequencing
35. Leads a team of Digital Engineers
36. Provides forecasts of work for external parties
37. Manages external teams drafting engineering drawings
38. Reviews and approves drawings taking into consideration buildability, temporary works and facility requirements
39. Document control through Common Data Environments
40. Reports status of design on a regular basis
41. Assists project engineer with this as per their job role
9 Engineering Knowledge – Capture, Sharing & Using
42. Provide value engineering in determining the best solutions to engineering problems.
43. Be aware of the lifting, handling, storage and transport requirement of the product and ensure these are captured in the temporary works design and communicated on drawings
44. Have an understanding of the capabilities and constraints of all manufacturing plants and equipment for the manufacture of reinforcement cages
45. Capturing facility knowledge and capability enabling continuous improvement, innovation and improved capability
