Assistant Practitioner – Generic Therapy

Band 4 Salary Range £30,353- £33,016 per annum
Distant Island Allowance £2,482 per annum
Overview
This post supports Long Term Conditions (LTC) services to the Shetland Island population. You will assist in Hospital at Home and allied health responses to help prevent admission and enhance early discharge. The role is based at Gilbert Bain Hospital, Lerwick and in the community setting, supporting care at the patient’s homes.
Key Responsibilities
* Support Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetic needs as part of Allied Health Professions services.
* Work both as part of a team and independently.
* Deliver care in hospital and community settings, including patient homes.
* Engage with patients to support independence and early discharge.
* Meet induction standards and code of conduct for Healthcare Support Workers within 3 months of starting.
* Assist Hospital at Home and allied health response at the front door and through the care pathway.
Qualifications & Experience
* Appropriate right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
* Relevant qualifications in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics or a related allied health profession.
* Experience in providing care for long‑term conditions.
* Ability to work in a remote or isolated setting.
* PVG Scheme membership or completion of a PVG update prior to a formal offer of employment.
Contract & Working Hours
The role is fixed‑term for 12 months, with 37 hours per week. The contract is funded externally. Discuss with your line manager if applying as a secondment.

* Not eligible for sponsorship in line with current Gov.uk guidance.
* Candidates will need to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or complete a PVG Scheme update before a formal offer.
