Due to increasing workload, we are now seeking a Substation Facilities Engineer to assist us in progressing our offshore wind projects towards construction. As the projects progress, there may be some work required outside of your base location at contractor locations as business/project needs dictate and some travel will be required with the role, both nationally and internationally.
About the role
1. As Substation Facilities Engineer you will be part of an Engineering team contributing specialist skills in offshore wind projects with a focus on offshore substation platforms, with particular responsibility for:Technical knowledge for offshore substation facilities, and auxiliary and LV systemsRCAs in case of component failuresPreparation of technical documentation and involvement in the related tender, contract and procurement process for our projectsTechnical management of related mechanical and electrical works on project construction sitesTechnical lead in supplier and product prequalification processTechnical lead in factory auditsApplication and further development of relevant internal standards, regulations, norms and best practiceProject reporting and development of processes and procedures
2. You will need direct involvement in Engineering and be expected to work closely with other package teams within the projects and in the line organisation, and in particular have involvement with and provide support for the development of the wider electrical systems including the offshore & onshore substations, cables, foundations and SCADA systems
3. The role will sit in RWE’ Electrical Components Team, supporting the Engineering Manager and Package Managers within development, constructions and/or operational projects with responsibilities including:Ensuring a robust through life design of the project’s offshore substation design supporting on all aspects of the auxiliary systems including building fabric, drainage, cable and pipework systems, fire detection and protection, HVAC, small power & lighting, battery and UPS systems etc.Development of specifications, subsequent TQ clarifications and ensuring specification compliance with selected consultants and contractorsAn emphasis on safety through design and through life performance of the assetsSupporting the progression of the system design, procurement and project management of the substation component parts in liaison with the Lead Electrical EngineerCoordination and monitoring of related works at substation fabrication/construction sitesClose liaison with technical experts in the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Department and Engineers working on similar projects to ensure their knowledge is effectively utilised on the projectCo-ordination and management of interfaces with other major construction packages, such as substations and cabling, in co-operation with other Engineers and Package Managers
Essential skill requirements:
4. University degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline
5. Several years of relevant work experience as an offshore substation specialist
6. High-level skills in design, fabrication and testing – the optimum would be work experience gained within a manufacturer or an Offshore Wind Farm Developer
7. Relevant experience regarding related project work, especially in the fields of technical specification writing and negotiations
8. Fluent English language skills

11. Advanced communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful
12. Valid driving licence
Location: Coventry, Swindon or London or any UK Offshore Site Office
