THE PROJECT

SPRITE+ Deep Dive: Extended Reality Convergence with other Emerging Technologies and the implications for Trust, Identity, Privacy, Safety, and Security (XRCET-TIPSS)

We are recruiting a Research Associate/Fellow to work on this one year deep dive project on the future evolution of Extended Reality (XR) technologies and what this means for TIPSS risks and risk mitigation, in particular focusing on the ways in which the convergence of XR with other emerging technologies (, AI, neurotech) will transform and disrupt issues of TIPSS in the next 5-15 years.

About SPRITE+

SPRITE+ is a UKRI-funded NetworkPlus led by the University of Manchester. It is a vehicle for collaboration, supporting engagement between people involved in research, practice, and policy relevant to Trust Identity Privacy and Security (TIPS). Since its launch in late 2019, we have built an active community of over 1000 members from across academia, industry, government and third sector and recruited numerous Project Partners from industry, government, law enforcement, and third sector stakeholders. We have delivered over forty activities so far, including funding calls (funded seventeen projects), community-building meetings, workshops and conferences, showcase events and a programme of activities for early career researchers. For details of our goals and activities see our website,

The Role

As the XRCET-TIPSS research associate you will have opportunities to hone your skills in literature review and synthesis, impact generation, and communication with non-academic audiences. You will work closely with the XR TIPSS Community of Interest Steering Group, the project team, and with RAs/RFs working on the three other Deep Dive topics.

We welcome applications from scholars familiar with the TIPSS issues associated with XR and/or other new and emerging technologies, from any disciplinary background, and with the ability to work across disciplines to build a holistic understanding of XRCET TIPSS issues. You will be supported by a multi-disciplinary and cross-sector project team and steering group.

What you will get in return:

1. Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
2. Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
3. Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
4. Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
5. Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
