Voluntary Subwarden – Faraday Hall
An opportunity has arisen for a Subwarden to join the existing team within Faraday Hall of Residence. Applications are invited from postgraduate research students of the University.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements
Free accommodation is available during term time, the accommodation available is single occupancy only. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided Monday to Friday during term time.
Duties
Subwardens assist the Warden in the day-to-day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties, as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of 367 students and which helps to ensure the smooth running of the hall.
Personal Attributes
Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be sociable and a good team player. Subwardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall and a willingness to engage with students and hall life in general.
Get to Know the Role and Team
It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process. The successful applicant must be available to attend Subwarden training sessions during mid-September and undertake first aid, mental health training, and fire safety training when the courses are available.

It is highly recommended that prospective candidates make contact with the Warden and the current Subwardens to find out about Hall life and the likely duties, during the application process. Interested applicants will be invited to a meet and greet session within the hall.

Applicants should not submit a standard University application form. Please submit The together with an accompanying letter outlining suitability for the post. These are then to be sent directly to the Warden. Candidates must provide contact details for two written references (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section).
There will be an opportunity to look round the hall on Monday 16th March at 5pm where you can meet the Warden team and some committee members. Completed application should be submitted by Tuesday 24th March at 5pm, with a view to holding interviews on week commencing 30th March. Successful candidates should be ready to take their place in hall by Monday 13th April.
