SHEQ Health and Safety Advisor – Cardiff, South Wales
Location: UK-wide site-based role (initially on a major earthworks contract)
Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 per annum

Overview
SEDR Recruitment is working with a leading civil engineering and earthworks contractor to appoint a SHEQ Health & Safety Advisor for a major site-based project.
This is a key delivery role responsible for promoting a safe working environment and embedding best practice across all HSE matters on a complex, high-output programme of works.
The business is known for its investment in modern plant, strong internal progression, and collaborative safety culture across a national footprint of infrastructure and environmental projects.
Key Responsibilities
Provide proactive HSE advice and support to site teams and supervisors
Conduct regular safety tours, inspections, and toolbox talks
Lead and support investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Maintain and update project-specific SHEQ documentation, including risk assessments and method statements
Deliver site inductions, briefings, and refresher training as required
Engage positively with operatives, subcontractors, and client SHE representatives
Monitor and report on site performance, producing monthly HSE reports
Stay current with health and safety legislation and promote continuous improvement
Requirements
Essential
Experience in a Health & Safety role on civil engineering or construction projects
NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
Strong understanding of CDM regulations and site-based compliance
Practical, site-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills
Confident working across multiple teams and reporting structures
Desirable
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards
