Job Title: Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology

Location: Taunton

Salary: £38,682 - £46,580 + £5,000 relocation and £10,000 welcome bonuses (external applicants up to £46,221 depending on qualifications and experience; bonus amounts subject to agreement)

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Southwest Pathology Services (SPS) has an opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) in Infection Sciences at the Hub Laboratory in Lisieux Way, Taunton.

SPS is a Synlab Laboratory, which operates a number of laboratories across the UK and Europe. This provides access to various Continuous Professional Development activities, both remotely and in face-to-face courses.

External applicants can earn up to £46,221, subject to qualifications and experience, and may be entitled to £5,000 relocation and £10,000 welcome bonuses.

SPS is seeking a highly motivated and organised individual, with HCPC registration and IBMS Specialist Portfolio, to join our friendly team of Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants.


About the role

You will be primarily based within the Microbiology section (including bacteriology, parasitology and mycology), with potential work in Virology and Molecular sections after suitable training. There is an expectation to participate in the out-of-hours service after training. Some opportunity to work from home may be available at management discretion.

You will be expected to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (dependent on qualifications, experience and training) and to perform designated duties in accordance with local practices, maintaining high professional standards and conforming to Health and Safety regulations.

Biomedical investigations will be performed autonomously, following standard operating procedures and within agreed quality standards and turnaround times, under the supervision of Team Managers.

To maintain HCPC registration, you will participate in continuous professional development through academic or practical experiences and maintain professional standards of conduct. You will also provide professional leadership and supervise Trainee BMS, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants.


Qualifications

* BSc Degree, accredited by the HCPC and IBMS
* HCPC Registration
* Specialist Portfolio, MSc or equivalent qualification
