Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry across the Crisis pathway.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.


Main duties of the job

The Emotional Wellbeing & Mental Health (EWMH) Care Group aim to “provide an integrated children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health service with single point of access and no wrong door approach”.

The post holder will provide medical psychiatric assessment and intervention to patients in the EWMH Care Group. Clinical sessions will include developing the urgent response to our SPOA/Assessment team through additional clinical time into our Crisis Pathway providing psychiatric input for the Crisis Team IHTT CITT.

The post will be part of the regional out-of-hours psychiatry rota which supports the Crisis teams across Cardiff and Vale, Cwm Taf Morgannwg, and Swansea Bay Health Boards with an on-call Psychiatrist.

With transformation & growth we have remodelled the service, offering clear pathways of care for children and young people. In addition to transforming these services, we have implemented new services in response to changing demands.

With the extension of our crisis team and development of a dedicated Intensive Home Treatment Service, we offer an alternative to admission where a child or young person with acute presentations may be better managed at home or a community environment acting as a set down service to those needing ongoing intensive support following admission

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine will be expected.

Person specification


Qualifications

* On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT due within 6 months of interview date (note that Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application)
* Section 12 Approved


Experience

* Broad training and experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry including at least three years training in a recognised training scheme
* Additional experience or interest in speciality area


Skills

* Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
* Effective and demonstrable communication skills
* Possess an extensive range of clinical knowledge and excellent clinical skills
* Knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding, along with knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Capacity Act


Clinical Governance

* Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
* Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation


Research

* Ability to critically evaluate published research evidence to inform clinical practice


Teaching

* Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors


Management

* Evidence of effective leadership skills
* Able to contribute effectively in meetings and committees
