Job Description:
The Gherkin is recognised as one of the most distinctive skyscrapers in the City of London. On the ground floor of the Gherkin you will find The Sterling, a bar and restaurant that offers fantastic spaces for after work drinks, meetings, corporate events, wedding receptions, special occasions, work lunches and dinners or simply a bite to eat or drink with friends.
Role Overview:
As the Assistant General Manager, you’ll play a vital role in daily operations, team leadership, and customer satisfaction. Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll help oversee all aspects of the pub/restaurant, from ensuring high-quality service to supporting team development. You’ll lead by example, maintain high standards, and ensure that both staff and guests feel valued and engaged.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Support: Assist the General Manager in all daily operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management.
2. Staff Supervision: Lead, train, and motivate team members to deliver exceptional service; assist with scheduling and performance reviews.
3. Customer Experience: Ensure an outstanding customer experience, proactively addressing any issues and building strong relationships with regular guests.
4. Quality Assurance: Uphold high standards in food, drink, and service quality; work closely with kitchen/bar teams to maintain consistency.
5. Compliance: Ensure health, safety, and licensing regulations are strictly adhered to.
6. Financial Oversight: Assist in managing budgets, monitoring expenses, and achieving financial targets; support in analyzing performance data to optimize operations.
Qualifications:
1. Proven experience in a managerial role within a pub, restaurant, or hospitality environment.
2. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
3. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
4. Knowledge of health, safety, and food hygiene standards.
5. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
6. A passion for delivering outstanding customer service and a positive guest experience.
