Therapy Assistant Practitioner

We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our established Integrated Discharge Team working at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

As part of our team you will play a vital role in providing high quality patient care whilst delivering the Trust's goals of reducing length of stay, improving admission avoidance and reducing avoidable readmissions.

The Integrated Discharge Team is an innovative team made up of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff and is designed to drive patients through their discharge planning process. The team sees patients in the Emergency Department to assess and identify patient who can safely be discharged or transferred rather than requiring an admission. They also provide therapy input in our assessment units and care of the elderly wards aiming to progress patients and reduce length of stay.

The team works in true partnership working with Social Care, the Older People's Mental Health team and community services identifying the most appropriate pathways for ongoing patient care.

A flexible and pro‑active approach is essential for this post as are excellent communication and team working skills. You should have previous experience as a therapy assistant and be able to motivate patients throughout their journey.

Main duties of the job

* To provide therapy assessment and treatment of patients under the guidance of a qualified Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist
* To be responsible for the delivery of care within agreed guidelines and protocols
* To provide support for the overall Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy service needs
* To be the first point of contact for assessment from the Therapy Services when determined by the Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist
* To manage own caseload including ward management using comprehensive risk assessment/management under the guidance of a qualified Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist
* To carry out community visits including home visits and access visits
* To undertake specific clinical responsibilities or projects supporting the overall delivery of Therapy services.
* To participate in a 7 Day Service working roster

Person Specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Broad experience of working as a Therapy / Physiotherapy/OT Assistant
* Recent experience of working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the members of the team
* Experience of carrying out a range of assessments independently
* Experience of assisting in ward management/organisation
* Experience of working in acute/ community settings

Qualifications & Training

* NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support (or Care with relevant Physiotherapy Units)/Allied Health Professionals (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) or relevant health and social care qualification or equivalent or equivalent experience
* Portfolio evidence of relevant experience/ Continuing Professional Development in specialist fields
* Training courses relevant to post
