Overview
Whilst fulfilling the core responsibilities of a Security and Community Safety Officer, this post at the University of Northampton places a strong emphasis on enhancing the student experience and delivering exceptional customer service and support. As a front‑line representative you will ensure the campus environment is safe, welcoming and supportive for students who are studying, working or living on campus.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing site access and safety
* Assisting with evidence retrieval
* Collaborating with the Residential Life Team to promote a safe living environment
* Working closely with the University Police Team (UPT)
* Participating in specialist training and scenario‑based exercises, including water rescue, fire investigations and first aid response
* Engaging with students, staff and visitors 24/7 across the university estate
Qualifications & Requirements
* Valid SIA CCTV Operative licence (or to be obtained during probation; full training provided)
* First Aid at Work Certificate (or to be obtained during probation; full training provided)
* Full driving licence
* Excellent customer service and communication skills
* Flexible, positive and proactive approach to a variety of situations
* Previous security experience desirable; eager to learn, committed to personal development and passionate about safety and wellbeing of the university community

Hours & Schedule
Full Time – Average 42 hours per week. 12‑hour shifts following a 4 on / 4 off rotation (rotating days and nights).
Location
Based primarily at Waterside Campus; flexibility to work across other sites may be required.
