Our state-of-the-art multidisciplinary referral hospital in Derby is seeking applicants for an ECVN residency position in veterinary neurology. The successful candidate will join our esteemed team comprising four experienced European Diplomates in Veterinary Neurology, a dedicated discipline manager, third year and second-year Neurology Residents, two Neurology Interns, and three dedicated neurology nurses.
The three-year Neurology residency program focuses on advanced training in Neurosurgery. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven, fast-learning, and curious individual with a passion for clinical work, learning, and research.
Our program offers a bustling referral hospital environment with diverse cases, balanced with ample off-clinics time for externships, research, study leave, and holidays. Participation in an 'out of hours' rota, supervised by a neurology specialist, is expected. Additionally, we have a robust academic schedule including weekly hospital-wide presentations, journal club, book club, neuroimaging, and neuro-pathology rounds.
Collaborating with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine, we offer opportunities for collaborative work and teaching final-year students during their clinical rotations. We also partner with Vets@Night, an in-house service to ensure our patients receive continuous care.
Our state-of-the-art Hospital
Pride Veterinary Referrals strives to deliver world class patient care. Our state-of-the-art facilities include 13 consultation rooms, 8 hospital wards (including dedicated intensive care unit and isolation unit), 5 theatres, 1.5T MRI, a 16-slice CT, digital radiography, electrodiagnostic equipment including EEG, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy unit. Pride Veterinary Referrals delivers multi-disciplinary, specialist-led care, facilitating close inter-departmental collaboration to provide the best possible outcome for all patients. We enjoy a close relationship with our other specialist services including internal medicine, orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, and rehabilitation. We are set in the heart of the prize-winning Pride Park development which boasts a plethora of modern sporting arenas and commercial enterprises.
We work closely with the University of Nottingham, with the veterinary students rotating through first opinion and referral services at Pride. Further afield, the foothills of the Derbyshire Dales offer idyllic surroundings, whilst having the urban benefits of both Derby and Nottingham cities on the doorstep and an international airport very close by.
The experienced, friendly team of 100+ veterinary professionals at Pride deliver specialist-led care across all disciplines, collaborating to provide the best possible outcome for all our patients.
The neurology team comprises of four experienced European Diplomates in Veterinary Neurology, a dedicated discipline manager, third year and second-year Neurology Residents, two Neurology Interns, and three dedicated neurology nurses.
What We’re Looking For
* Recognised veterinary degree and RCVS membership
* Minimum of a 12-month rotating internship within a university or referral clinic with a substantial case load or equivalent broad-based clinical experience in small animal practice of at least two-year duration (desirable in the UK)
* Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication)
* Right to work in the UK
Working Hours
This is a full-time role composing of 42 hours over 5 days per week, usually 8:30 - 18:00 with 1 hour lunch unpaid, which will include a fair share of out of hours and weekend cover.
