Control System Design and Simulation Team Leader
This role is based at Culham, Oxfordshire. Onsite working is expected; however, we can discuss hybrid working options depending on business needs.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
Salary: £70,505 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance).
The Role
The Control and Instrumentation Group leads the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for UKAEA projects. We seek a strategic and technically skilled Team Leader to head the Control System Design and Simulation team within the C&I Group. You will oversee the design, development, and commissioning of advanced E,C&I systems across various projects.
As the Subject Matter Expert and Lead Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will provide high-level technical leadership and innovation. You will manage an engineering team and ensure delivery of solutions on time and within budget.
Strong leadership, proven line management experience, and effective stakeholder engagement are essential, along with a commitment to technical excellence.

Role Overview
The Team Leader is responsible for delivering complex technical projects and managing a high-performing engineering team. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading EC&I projects from concept to delivery, including critical systems with site-wide or external impact.
* Setting strategic direction and advising on design, installation, and operational strategies.
* Creating and implementing new technical standards, processes, and risk mitigation measures where needed.
* Representing UKAEA externally, contributing to technical development, and mentoring junior engineers.
* Providing strong line management, including performance management and career development for team members.
* Planning and prioritizing workload to meet program and safety requirements.
* Managing team resources, equipment, and contractors to support project delivery.
* Promoting a safety culture and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
Qualifications include a Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or an HND with extensive experience; proficiency with simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink, AVEVA, ETAP, Siemens SIMIT, LabVIEW; a broad understanding of design and engineering practices; health, safety, environment, and quality standards; experience in high-hazard industrial environments; Chartered Engineer status; and Functional Safety qualifications.
