To deliver SAFE, PERSONAL and EFFECTIVE patient care daily.

You should be an expert in all areas of nursing care from patient’s admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development.

You will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence based patient centred care. This will be of a high standard.

You are responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures.

Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources.

The Trauma Co-Ordinator will co-ordinate the care of all emergency patients, admissions in accordance with local guidelines and pathways ensuring the effect use of orthopaedic beds, and the optimisation of patients and utilisation of theatre lists to provide a comprehensive, high quality Orthopaedic Trauma Team Service.

They are to ensure all patients follow the correct orthopaedic trauma pathways.

To ensure theatre lists are managed well while liaising with the wider MDT.

To maintain quality communication between theatres, the emergency department, fracture clinic and other external agencies.

The Trauma Co-Ordinator must have an active and valid registration with the NMC.


Main duties of the job

* Assist with spinal patients, log rolling, support with moving and handling.
* Preparation for the Trauma meeting and ward round.
* Manage the Trauma office on a day-to-day basis.
* Regular monitoring of the Orthopaedic Trauma mail inbox, reporting, addressing correspondence with support from the Trauma team.
* Carry out clerical activities associated with the admission, transfer of patients and making fracture clinic appointments, including liaising with the patient/carer to inform of follow up arrangements and production of appointment letters to be sent to patients/carers.
* Maintain PAS/EPTS (Patient Administration System/ Electronic patient transfer system) current and up-to-date at all times.
* Communicate with patients, wards and departments by telephone, face-to-face and electronically in furtherance of the effective management of trauma patients.
* To ensure all Trauma & Orthopaedic database/audits is completed for all patients.
* Communicate/consult with other departments internal and external to the Trust.
* Organise initial assessment or follow-up appointments for patients as instructed by the Trauma team and documentation contained within the medical notes.
* Management of junior staff, manage appraisals and HR issues.
* Provide ward-based training and to deliver trauma training program to appropriate staff.

NMC Registered Nurse 1st Level.

Mentorship/Teaching Qualification

Good orthopaedic knowledge/Experience

Excellent communicate skill’s, verbal, written and electronic

Able to to communicate effectively with all MDT.

Proven ability to work as a team member. Demonstrate a sympathetic approach when dealing with colleagues and patients

Able to prioritise, plan and organise workload. Accurate record keeping.

Able to work shift’s, including weekends and late shifts.

Able to adapt to the changing needs of the service.

Able to Lone work

Actively seeks to develop own skills and clinical knowledge.

Able to share and teach good orthopaedic knowledge and skill to other’s.

Demonstrate ability to use own initiative and work without close supervision. Able to deal with confidential information in an appropriate manner. Able to make decision based on clinical need.


Person specification


Qualifications

* NMC Registered Nurse 1st Level.
* Mentorship/Teaching Qualification
* Speciality Orthopaedic Qualification.
* Level 3/Certificate of Higher Education Diploma/Degree.


Experience

* Good orthopaedic knowledge/Experience
