Woodsley & Holt PCN would like to recruit a Podiatrist to work within our Primary Care Network (PCN) multidisciplinary healthcare team. Newly qualified podiatrists may apply as appropriate training and support will be offered. Our ambition is to empower and improve management of patients suffering with various foot conditions and other at-risk groups that have limited access to our community podiatry service.
Main duties of the job
 * Work as part of a PCN comprising 10 local practices with a total population of around 100,000 registered patients.
 * Collaborate with other PCN roles: Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Dietitian and Social Prescriber, in addition to core practice teams.
 * Assess and investigate foot conditions, provide advice, and refer patients directed to the service by a primary healthcare worker or via reception where appropriate.
 * Work independently and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team; training can be offered for the right candidate.
 * Be supported by the clinical team at each GP surgery and work with the wider clinical team to deliver holistic care; adapt the service in response to local population needs.
About us
Woodsley & Holt PCN covers the following areas: Woodhouse, Kirkstall, Burley, Hyde Park, Headingley, Cookridge and Horsforth areas of Leeds. It is expected the post holders will develop and maintain close links across the city.
Job responsibilities
 * Provide clinical assessment, treatment, and management of a caseload of patients of all ages with lower limb conditions and foot pathologies within a PCN multidisciplinary team.
 * Utilise and provide guidance on equipment such as surgical instruments, dressings, treatment tables and orthotics.
 * Support high-risk patient groups such as the elderly and those at increased risk of amputation.
 * Develop the service to include therapeutic and surgical techniques to treat foot and lower leg issues (e.g., nail and soft tissue surgery using local anaesthetic).
 * Deliver foot health education to patients.
 * Implement clinical governance, including regular audits, supervision and training.
 * Liaise with PCN multidisciplinary team, community and secondary care staff to arrange investigations and onward referrals.
 * Communicate outcomes and integrate findings into local service practice and pathway development.
 * Develop, implement and evaluate a seamless podiatry support service across the PCN in collaboration with community and secondary care where appropriate, aimed at improving standards of patient care and multidisciplinary teamwork.
 * Operate as a highly autonomous and independent practitioner with a clear, polite telephone manner.
 * Demonstrate effective IT skills, planning and organisational abilities; maintain personal accountability and resilience under pressure.
 * Maintain HCPC registration and uphold professional standards of treatment and conduct.
 * Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to advance understanding of anatomy and movement; provide leadership on podiatry clinical service development within the PCN.
 * Educate and share expertise with PCN staff to promote good practice in foot health; deliver best practice in clinical practice and audit to meet objectives.
 * Undertake administrative tasks such as stock management and equipment maintenance; promote multidisciplinary working and regular liaison at locality meetings.
 * Attend mandatory training and participate in CPD opportunities to develop new skills and maintain existing ones.
Person Specification
Qualifications
 * BSc or pre-reg MSc in Podiatry under a training programme approved by the College of Podiatry
 * Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
 * Able to operate at an advanced level of practice
Experience
 * Appreciation of the nature of GPs and general practice
 * Experience of core indicative patient presentations including: skin and nail pathology; circulatory disorders affecting the lower limb; neurological disorders affecting the lower limb; biomechanics; rheumatology conditions; endocrine and metabolic disorders affecting the lower limb; care of the elderly; podopaediatrics
 * Appreciation of NHS landscape relationships between practices, PCNs and commissioners
 * Experience working with multidisciplinary teams; involvement in developing departmental protocols/procedures
 * Knowledge and experience using System One and EMIS
