Offer description

Are you a caring, engaging and motivated pharmacist? If so, you could be well suited to this dynamic clinical role.

We are looking to recruit a highly committed band 8a Lead Pharmacist (Mental Health) to be part of the Trust Pharmacy team. This post will be based in Brighton and Hove and will cover the Urgent Care services for the locality, this includes; the Haven, Crisis Response Home Treatment Team (CRHT) and Mental Health Liaison Teams (MHLT) based at local acute Trusts.

You will be offering advice on complex medicines queries alongside the delivery of direct patient care. The role has an emphasis on the assessment, treatment and wider care of patients who are acutely unwell in the community, typically with a broad range of needs concerning the safe and effective use of medications. The pharmacist will be a key member of the urgent care multidisciplinary team embedded to provide advice and support whilst also acting with a degree of clinical autonomy in treating patients, for example, in being responsible for suggesting or implementing treatments, monitoring, follow up and transfer of care.

This post is subject to an enhanced check with adults barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role are detailed in the attached job outline and person specification.

There is no dispensary commitment currently. The post has a limited on call requirement which does not include on site out of hours provision at present.

About us

We are a friendly and committed pharmacy team, who are keen to support the wellbeing of our patients and each other. Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust is one of the largest mental health and learning disability trusts in the UK. As a mental health trust SPFT places a huge focus on the wellbeing of our staff, as well as ensuring our reward packages reflect the immensely important work they do.

You can expect:o Access to full psychological support, the wellbeing teamo Excellent supervision programmes.o Flexible working opportunitieso Access to a host of discount schemes (including gyms, shopping, restaurants and cars)o A position within a trust rated as Outstanding for caring and Good overall by the CQCo Generous holiday entitlement (starting at 27 days + 8 bank holidays) pro ratao Excellent NHS Pension Scheme

Job responsibilities

A unique aspect of this role is the provision of care to patients in the local acute Trusts to promote parity of esteem and meet the mental health needs of those admitted both for unplanned or routine treatment. The physical health of our mental health and learning disability patients is important to us, with the life expectancy of patients suffering serious mental health illness being reduced by 15 to 20 years, often through avoidable causes. The trust is committed to reducing this risk and the pharmacy team plays a leading role.

Whilst the role does not require a non-medical prescribing qualification at the point of application it is highly desirable. The appointed post holder should be actively considering or already pursuing this qualification. Independent prescribing in the Urgent Care setting can lead to a wide and diverse intent to prescribe. With consideration given to governance and clinical knowledge this can be aspirational and will be supported by a Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP).

The role also encompasses line management, medicines management and education. The successful candidate will have experience of leadership or will be looking to develop their leadership skills through training, education and workplace exposure in line with the principles of the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model. Education and training are central to the aims of the pharmacy department and we actively seek to promote opportunities as such. We also recognise the importance in realising the potential of our team by providing training and expertise to patients and colleagues.

Please see the attached job outline and person specification for more details about this role.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact us and discuss further, we would be more than happy to chat through the particulars of the role.
