Job Title – Homeless Prevention AssistantLocation – Thurrock (hybrid working available)Contract – TemporaryHours – Full-time, 37 hours per weekSalary – £17.00 LTD / £13.15 PAYE per hourRole Summary –We are currently recruiting for a Homeless Prevention Assistant on behalf of a local authority in Thurrock. This role supports the Housing Solutions Service, with a focus on processing accommodation payments, resolving queries, and assisting the Temporary Accommodation team in meeting its legislative requirements.This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a background in finance, administration, or housing, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys delivering high-quality support services.Key Responsibilities:
* Processing and monitoring payments and invoices for temporary accommodation
* Acting as first point of contact for accommodation providers regarding payment queries
* Liaising with internal departments including Finance, Revenues and Benefits, and Social Care
* Supporting financial preparations at month- and year-end
* Maintaining accurate data and reports using systems such as Oracle, NEC, Jigsaw, and Objective
* Monitoring health and safety documentation and ensuring compliance
* Providing administrative support including data entry, statistics, and letter/report writing
* Assisting with FOI requests, councillor enquiries, complaints and general correspondence
Requirements:
* Experience working in a financial or administrative setting, ideally within a local authority or housing provider
* Knowledge of payment systems and financial processes
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently
* Understanding of housing and homelessness issues is desirable
