The general anaesthetic consultant and SAS body deliver elective and emergency anaesthesia and fulfill the following operational, governance, and quality improvement roles:
Colleagues represent RCHT Anaesthesia nationally in their roles as College examiners, British Society Echocardiography examiners, VASGBI Committee Council members, and Faculty of Pain Medicine Professional Standards Committee members.
RCHT is well represented in the Deanery with two College Tutors, the Training Programme Director, the Head of School, and the College CPD advisor.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of Anaesthesia.
2. Share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the Anaesthetic department.
3. Teach and train junior staff and medical students where applicable.
4. Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
5. Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
6. Engage in quality improvement, data analysis, information presentation, and service development as appropriate.
7. Attend care group and directorate business, operational, and governance meetings as appropriate.
8. Fulfill duties of weekly timetable, including any out-of-hours responsibilities.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
* Primary FRCA or equivalent
* FRCA
Experience
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in Anaesthesia.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care.
* Experience in teaching medical students, peers, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance, understanding their role in improving patient care and embedding this in practice.
* Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anaesthesia.
* Independent Obstetric On-Call anaesthesia experience.
* Emergency CEPOD and Trauma experience.
* Paediatric Anaesthesia in line with Royal College expectations of an Adult General Anaesthetist with Certificate of Completion of Training.
* Specialist expertise and experience in Obstetrics are desirable.
* Professional management and leadership skills.
