The Role
This post holder will work as an autonomous advanced clinical practitioner providing care, developing management plans and referring to specialties to stable and acutely unwell patients. Utilising complexed decision making, critical analysis, and clinical reasoning skills, they will be responsible for patients and relatives within their care to include decisions to admit, transfer to specialties or discharge from ED. The post holder will always work within their professional boundaries and regulations.
The post holder will be expected to assess a wide range of patients including cardiovascular stable /unstable adults / children with minor injuries and acute illness in collaboration and consultation of department consultants/General Practitioners.
The post holder will demonstrate competence in advanced skills and knowledge reflective of Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) level of practice for advanced practice and demonstrate this via the 4 pillars of advanced practice. Support will be given for those working through RCEM portfolio.
The post holder will assist team lead in developing and leading whole team and act as deputy in team lead absence. They will assist team lead in management of team such as SSTS/Optima/CPD /sickness absence/SAER’s.
The post holder will participate in appropriate NHSL groups, such as Advanced Practice, to ensure consistent standards within NHSL advanced practice.
The post holder will take part in research/quality improvement to continually improve standards/quality within ED.
Additional Information Specific To The Role
* Performs role of senior advanced practitioner in ED autonomously.
* Provided leadership, supervision and management to team of advanced practitioners within ED.
* Liaise with other advanced practitioners within NHSL.
* Provide learning and teaching to wider team within ED and NHSL wide.
* Identifies and measures key indicators of quality and drives improvement across department.
* Conduct advanced analysis and interpretation of physiological data including laboratory results, ECG interpretation and radiological investigations.
* Provides/leads clinical team at medical emergencies and cardiorespiratory arrests.
* Ensure record keeping, including electronic data capture, is timely and accurate ensuring patient confidentiality is compliant with professional guidelines.
* Continuously evaluate advanced interventions and complex treatment modalities for the critically ill patient within the hospital environment.
* Supports team lead with development of team and wider ED team.

What we'll need you to bring
Registered Nurse /AHP or Pharmacist with a valid NMC/ HCPC / GPhC registration.
Completion of Post Graduate Diploma (Masters) in Advanced Practice with evidence of finalising Masters Degree i.e post holder is undertaking the last module of a Masters Degree which is the research dissertation.
Independent prescriber.
Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland leadership qualities framework or equivalent framework
Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
Evidence of facilitating learning and teaching
Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within areas of expertise.
Experience of assessing training needs.
Experience of resource management (Financial, Human and Capital)
Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data.
Evidence of sound and effective leadership. Ability to think strategically, and lead a team.
Evidence of developing innovative solutions in meeting organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change.
Evidence of developing teams/services and integrated solutions to complex and challenging problems.
Experience of appropriate advanced practitioner programme and evidence of completion of advanced practice competency.
Knowledge and experience of information technology

Excellent structures communication skills
Ability to perform advanced clinical skills in line with RCEM ACP level or equivalent
i.e chest drain insertion, placement and management of invasive lines, suturing- wound management/closure
