Job Summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our team. Our clinical team comprises of 4 Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologists, 4 Clinical Fellows, 2 Junior Doctors, 2 Optometrists, 15 Orthoptists and 4 Nurses who all work closely together to deliver care to our children and young people.

Our patient cohort encompasses a broad diversity of conditions including retinoblastoma, paediatric cataract, uveitis, glaucoma, medical and surgical retina, ciliopathy, craniofacial, contact lens, inherited metabolic diseases.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, team-focused individual to bring new ideas to our practices. You will be part of a team of specialist paediatric optometrists providing clinical services to our patient cohort within a hospital and community outreach setting with opportunities for paediatric contact lens work and other extended roles. You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical, and orthoptic staff with access to contemporary diagnostic instrumentation and out‑patient diagnostic services.

Main Duties

To provide clinical services as a specialist, paediatric optometrist including diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and discharge of new and follow up paediatric patients within a hospital and community outreach setting. Practice under the direction of the head orthoptist, your optometry colleagues and paediatric consultant ophthalmologists supported by a multi-disciplinary team of medical and orthoptic staff with access to contemporary diagnostic instrumentation and out‑patient diagnostic services. Recommend defined care and treatment based on clinical observations, diagnostic test results, parental requests and patients' wishes. Manage a personal case load, planning care based on medical evidence, specialist knowledge and departmental protocols. Contribute to the development of specialist paediatric care services, clinical audit and teaching. Maintain knowledge, clinical skills, expertise and professional development to specialist standards.
