Overview
Join to apply for the Specialist Biomedical Scientist role at NHS Scotland. This permanent post is within the Genetic Service and funded to implement genetic testing across Scotland to inform appropriate medication for patients who have experienced ischaemic stroke. The position contributes to the wider application of pharmacogenomics to inform effective prescribing of common medicines.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a high-quality service as part of a dedicated laboratory team under the direction of a Senior Clinical Scientist, implementing high-throughput CYP2C19 genetic testing in collaboration with colleagues from the West of Scotland Regional Genetic Service and the NHS Scotland Centre for Sustainable Delivery.
* Manage the technical workload within the laboratory for this test, including analysis and interpretation of genetic results.
* Authorise a defined set of laboratory reports as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Monitor the performance and effectiveness of the national CYP2C19 testing service in collaboration with Senior Clinical Scientists.
* Prioritise the workload of the team and ensure careful and meticulous work in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* Contribute to quality assurance and UKAS accreditation; support supervision and training of other staff.
* Support service improvement and development within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work in a careful and meticulous manner.
* Ability to operate within standard operating procedures and contribute to quality assurance and accreditation processes.

* Location: Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Scotland.
* Hours: 37.0 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
* Contract: Permanent.
