Residential Childcare Worker (Casual) – Ref: CH05725 at WMJobs on behalf of Walsall Council.
Salary: G6 £30,024 (pro-rata if part-time). Plus Sleep-ins as required (additional Allowance). Contract: Casual.
We are seeking resilient, robust and resourceful individuals who are honest, reliable, compassionate, flexible, fun and hard-working to consider a career in children’s residential services.
We currently provide residential care for looked after children at six children’s homes located in Walsall. Homes accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older due to the Department for Education National Minimum Standards.
Closing Date: 30th April 2026. This is a rolling advert; applications are reviewed regularly as part of shortlisting. Interviews will be convened at regular intervals. The advert will be closed when all positions are filled.

Responsibilities
* Direct care of children living in the home and high levels of engagement with children to achieve positive outcomes.
* Support with daily routines including cooking the evening meal and helping with homework.
* Participate in activities and provide a supportive, safe environment; contribute to risk assessment and safeguarding practices.
* Attend meetings, address challenging behaviour, and assist with writing reports as required.
* Work to small, Safe, personalised, child-centred care in line with service standards.
Qualifications
* Level 3 Residential Child Care or an equivalent qualification and experience within the residential sector.
* Age 21 or older due to safeguarding requirements.
* Ability to communicate in English to a standard required for public sector roles.
* Enhanced DBS disclosure is a requirement; willingness to declare overseas stays or work with appropriate documentation if applicable.
Working arrangements
* Casual posts have no guaranteed hours. Hours will be offered to successful applicants as required to meet the needs of the Children’s Homes within the service.
* The Council operates six children’s homes in Walsall. Roles involve direct care and engagement with looked after children up to age 18.
* This role requires commitment to safeguarding and ongoing professional development.
