Overview
We are looking to recruit a Therapy Assistant (TA) to work with our inpatient team. This vacancy is within the Elderly Care Team.
Responsibilities
* Work with patients when they come into hospital, on the wards and at times in their homes.
* Collaborate with occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nursing staff to help patients regain the ability to carry out everyday tasks such as walking, climbing stairs and getting dressed. Some work is done in groups.
* Help patients settle back at home after their stay in hospital.
* Provide support and encouragement to undertake tasks, especially if the patient has a disability or has lost confidence.
* Work flexibly with a range of adults, many of them older, to enable independence. This requires clear communication, a proactive problem-solving approach and good organisation for administrative and departmental duties within the team.
* On a typical day, see patients on their own on the ward, assist therapists with treatment sessions, and accompany patients home from hospital to ensure they are safe.
* Contribute to treatment sessions by teaching and progressing exercise programmes, walking re-education, and practising washing and dressing. Provide and adjust equipment to assist daily activities and feed back any risks or safety concerns to the therapists.
* Carry out administrative and departmental duties such as collating data, monitoring and maintaining equipment stocks, taking telephone messages, sending letters to patients and referrals to other teams.
