Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated strategic leader to join the senior leadership team within one of our five clinical divisions. Division D encompasses a diverse and complex portfolio, including Neurosciences, EPOV (Ear, Nose and Throat, Head & Neck, Plastics, Oral/Maxillofacial, Vascular Surgery), and CDG-MODEL (Cardiology, Dermatology, Medical Genetics, Metabolic Medicine, Obesity, Diabetes/Endocrinology and Lipids). This is an opportunity to influence how care is provided now and in the future, driving performance, transformation and innovation.

In this role you will operationally lead the services within the division, empowering the workforce to deliver safe and effective patient centric care. You will focus on the design and delivery of the Division's strategic vision with a commitment to continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

* Direct and facilitate the operational performance of the Division as a complex business, delivering high quality patient care, governance, patient safety, clinical quality and achievement of operational and financial targets.
* As a member of the Divisional leadership team (Divisional Board), lead business and strategic planning, shaping and implementing the Trust's corporate objectives within the Division with the Divisional Director.
* Enable, challenge and support Clinical Directors to deliver operational performance and development of their Clinical Directorate within resource constraints (including nursing, finance and HR).
* Deputise for the Divisional Director on divisional matters and provide visible leadership for the entire Division.
* Build capability and be responsible for performance across the division, in partnership with the Divisional Director.
* Provide operational leadership to the Divisional Nurse with professional oversight by the Chief Nurse.

Person Specification

Qualifications

* Essential: Degree or equivalent professional qualification
* Essential: Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
* Essential: Relevant Postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent management qualification)
* Desirable: Relevant professional registration

Experience

* Essential: Substantial experience managing a large, complex health, social or similar service
* Essential: Track record of collaborative work with senior clinicians across multidisciplinary services
* Essential: Experience leading and managing change, commissioning and service planning, capacity and budget management
* Essential: NHS acute sector experience and strategic long-term change leadership
* Desirable: Experience across multiple areas of specialism and with third sector partners

Knowledge

* Essential: Clinical and corporate governance; NHS and DH agendas; partnership working; lifelong learning; workforce planning and staff development
* Desirable: Knowledge of some specialties

Skills

* Leadership and ability to motivate and empower others; excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
* Influencing clinicians and managers for service improvement; risk management and SI handling
* Ability to prioritise, meet tight deadlines, translate complex issues into clear plans, and deliver flexible solutions
* Data analysis, transformation and CIP experience; senior-level collaboration and political judgement

* Able to travel within the region and nationally; willing to work across the Trust; uphold Trust values
