AAC Specialist – Join Our Inclusive Education Team

About the Team and Role

Are you passionate about transforming the lives of children and young people with complex communication needs? Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team in Gloucestershire as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Specialist. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive education by providing expert assessment, tailored intervention strategies, and innovative AAC solutions for children and young people aged 0–25.

Working across educational settings and communities, you’ll lead the development of our local AAC service, collaborating with regional and national partners to ensure best practice and equitable access to communication tools. From symbol-based boards to high-tech communication aids, you’ll help unlock each young person’s potential, enabling them to learn, express themselves, and thrive alongside their peers.

This is a unique opportunity to deliver impactful training working directly with families, schools, and multidisciplinary professionals to remove barriers to learning and promote independence. You’ll also manage funding requests, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure our services align with national guidance and commissioning frameworks.

About You

You are a highly skilled and compassionate professional with a deep understanding of AAC and its transformative impact on children and young people with complex communication needs, often with a range of additional needs such as Autism, physical impairments,, speech, language, and communication, or learning disabilities.

You will need to bring proven experience in delivering specialist AAC assessments and interventions, along with a collaborative approach that enables you to work effectively across education, health, and social care sectors. You should be confident in leading training and building capacity among professionals and families, with a strong understanding of current SEND legislation and inclusive practices. A commitment to person-centred approaches is essential, ensuring that every child and young person’s voice is heard, valued, and respected.

You’ll be comfortable managing complex caseloads, coordinating with regional AAC services, and advocating for the needs of children and young people. Your ability to design and adapt AAC resources, contribute to reviews and tribunals, and engage with voluntary organisations will be key to your success.

A full driving licence and enhanced DBS check are required, along with the flexibility to travel across the county.
