Overview
Part-Time role is 18.5 hours per week. This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. The post holder may drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will supervise work site activities, work with service users to ensure tasks are carried out to a high standard, and demonstrate good practice as necessary. Tasks include varied projects that involve practical work that should be visible to the public as reparation to the community. The post holder will exercise appropriate authority to maintain discipline and good behaviour within working groups, alerting relevant staff to any infringements. They will support some service users to gain employment skills through work experience and training opportunities. Staff contribute to review and evaluation of service delivery and to a culture of continuous improvement. Weekend working may be required as part of the normal pattern of work. The work may involve working alongside volunteers or staff from partner organisations.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
* Conduct a start of day toolbox talk to ensure service users understand tasks, safe working practices, and to motivate and support them to complete their Order.
* Follow work directions within the project placement file.
* Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed; alert relevant staff to risks; ensure related paperwork is completed accurately and on time, and contribute to placement risk assessments.
* Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available and that instructions for safe use are followed by service users.
* Conduct a dynamic risk assessment to identify and manage hazards.
* Use pro-social and other motivational techniques to ensure service users complete work in a disciplined and well-behaved manner.
* Monitor attendance of service users allocated to agency placements and promote successful completions.
* Maintain service users' records in accordance with organisational requirements and ensure information is updated on the case management system in a timely and accurate manner.
* Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for service users within the supervised work group to provide enhanced learning opportunities.
* Contribute towards promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience of Practical Skills.
* UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus.
* Evidence of commitment to teamwork.
* Effective inter-personal skills with the ability to supervise people constructively while maintaining authority.
* Evidence of problem-solving within a workplace or similar environment.
* Knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work.
* Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training.
* Willing to attain IOSH Level 3 or equivalent and to attend further training.
* Willing to achieve and maintain Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.
* Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to service users.
* Good written communication skills.
Additional Information
* Hybrid Working arrangements may be available where business needs allow; arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate and subject to regular review.
* National location may be discussed; appointment to a MoJ office location may include the nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. Details will be discussed on completion of pre-employment checks.
* For part-time roles, hours are pro-rated in line with part-time working policies. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns will be considered in accordance with policy.

* Standard full-time hours are 37 hours per week; this role is part-time. The Probation Service offers pay progression within the Competency Based Framework where eligible.
