AMJ Recruitment is looking for a Technical Manager (Automotive Manufacturing) to join our Manufacturing Client based in Coventry.
Pay Rate - £55,000 - £65,000 per annum (DOE)

Position Overview
The Technical Manager will lead the Technical Department, delivering tool design and production, laser programming, inspection fixtures/gauging, prototype part manufacture, tooling prove‑out, process development, design for manufacturing (DFM) and problem solving. The role acts as the technical authority and collaborates closely with engineering, production and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead design, production, trial and maturation of tooling for new and existing parts.
* Provide DFM input on prototypes and production parts to ensure manufacturability, efficiency and repeatability.
* Work with engineering teams to review and refine technical drawings and translate them into robust fabrication processes.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives on tooling and production processes.
* Oversee technical problem‑solving for complex fabrication or assembly challenges and provide engineered solutions.
* Apply expert knowledge of MIG, TIG and spot welding to support troubleshooting.
* Develop new weld and 5‑axis fixtures to support new product introduction.
* Oversee production of additive‑manufactured checking fixtures.
* Maintain strong adherence to HSE regulations.
* Act as primary technical contact for fabrication and tooling issues within the business.
* Identify and recommend investment in new plant and technology to support growth and improve production efficiency.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing fabrication environment.
* Strong CAD/CAM skills with deep knowledge of automotive fabrication processes (press, 3‑ and 5‑axis laser cutting, brake press, welding, metal finishing).
* Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and engineering schematics.
* Strong understanding of DFM principles, tooling development and prototype maturation.
* Excellent knowledge of HSE standards within a manufacturing environment.
* Proven ability in team leadership, project management and problem solving.
Desirable
* Experience leading technical departments or engineering support teams.
* Exposure to NPI cycles, automotive PPAP processes.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
* CAD/CAM software proficiency.
