A successful and forward-thinking academy in Oldham is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Assistant to join its finance team. This is an important role supporting the smooth and efficient financial operations of the academy, ensuring accuracy, compliance and value for money. About the Role The Finance Assistant will support the day-to-day financial administration of the academy in Oldham, working closely with the School Business Manager and wider leadership team. The role will involve purchase ledger processing, reconciliations, financial record-keeping and supporting compliance with academy and Trust financial procedures. You will play a key part in ensuring financial systems run efficiently, deadlines are met and stakeholders receive timely and professional support. Key Responsibilities Process purchase orders and invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments. Maintain the purchase ledger and reconcile supplier statements. Assist with bank reconciliations and monthly financial reporting. Monitor the finance inbox and respond to supplier and staff queries. Support payroll administration and staff expense processing where required. Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records in line with Trust and ESFA requirements. Assist with budget monitoring and data entry into financial systems. The Ideal Candidate Previous experience in a finance or accounts administration role, ideally within education or the public sector. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial processing. Good working knowledge of accounting systems (e.g. FMS, PS Financials, Sage or similar). Confident user of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Strong organisational and communication skills. Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines. Understanding of financial compliance and confidentiality requirements.
