We are currently seeking an experienced Regional Transport Solutions Manager. The role is to be based in Chineham, Basingstoke 3 days per week with travel across the network as required.

The Regional Transport Solutions Manager is accountable for leading a regional solutions modelling team, working in collaboration with the National Planning and Regional Distribution Centre leadership teams, to model and build an optimum, efficient (service and cost) base schedule for Primary and Retail operations, whilst seeking wider synergy opportunities with Fashion, Home and Beauty (FH&B) to generate value for M&S.

The Regional Transport Solutions Manager will own the operating schedules for their region and will be accountable for ensuring optimal transport capacity is available to deliver cost-effective service performance to suppliers, RDC and stores.

Role details:

Salary: Competitive

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Working pattern: Monday - Friday with flexibility to meet the business needs

Location: Gist Chineham, RG24 8UB 3 days per week with travel across the network as required

What you’ll do:

11. Create a pipeline of schedule efficiency opportunities that contributes to the overall annual delivery of £10m within the function
12. Tracks and monitors the implementation of change initiatives against service metrics and associated business case (where stated)
13. Undertake scenario-based modelling to determine future investment decisions e.g. Network design and fleet renewal (trailer type)
14. Continuously review and update regional base schedule operating plan, aligned to weekly and seasonal volume forecast ensuring that service levels and performance metrics are delivered in full
15. Schedule master data (SMD) ownership and governance for Suppliers (including equipment), RDC inbound and Store deliveries within the allocated region
16. Model documents change and provide organisational awareness of commercial implications (cost / benefit)
17. Works collaboratively with Regional Retail Service Managers, holding full ownership and accountability for event planning. This includes leading store delivery schedule surgeries, peak modelling and updating schedule master data to ensure seamless peak operational performance
18. Ensures new suppliers, new stores and refreshers are modelled utilising Fastnet system to ensure network remains efficient and all systems are set up for success and service policy is maintained
19. Owns and manages Transport Planning Mapper system, ensuring all upcoming road closures are accurately reflected in the plan to ensure schedule integrity across the region
20. Hosts weekly regional driver sharing call to ensure all available driver resource are fully leveraged, reducing agency and subcon costs
21. Lead and develop the Transport Solutions Modelling team to ensure that they have the required skillset to produce and deliver value for M&S, on a consistent basis, whilst also creating succession development pathways

Who you are:

22. Extensive knowledge of chilled transport logistics networks including experience within transport planning
23. Strong leadership skills
24. The ability to engage and influence at appropriate levels both within Gist and M&S
25. Ability to take a fresh and innovative view to problem solving and analysis
26. Analytical approach to review effectiveness and efficiency of current network
27. Experience of relevant network planning systems – Paragon (essential) & Enterprise
28. Advanced user of Transport execution systems - Microlise
29. Strong logic and numerical reasoning
30. Ability to demonstrate financial awareness through experience of owning transport budgets
31. Ability to manage and prioritise a broad range of initiatives
32. The ability to simplify complex problems/messages – adjusting the approach as necessary
33. Ability to think creatively to solve problems and to bring colleagues with you
34. Stakeholder management skills to provide information, drive decisions and resolve issues
35. People development/coaching skills
