In collaboration with several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key driver in making Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are recruiting a Senior Construction Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar, Cleveland, Teesside.
Role Purpose
1. Assist the Project Manager with scope definition, planning, and daily execution of the construction project. Responsible for maintaining aspects of the project schedule, managing submittal approvals, coordinating timely delivery of materials, and managing schedules and budgets.
2. Oversee all technical aspects of the project during the Construction phase, including scope definition, design reviews, Technical Queries (TQs), subcontractor management, cable calculations, final As-Built checks, and ensuring safety and adherence to schedule.
3. Report to the Project Manager and coordinate with team members such as QS, Design, and Planning.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Construction Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Defining work package scopes and execution strategies.
2. Ensuring packages are delivered on time, within budget, and meet safety and quality standards.
3. Maintaining accurate records, including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings, and other communications.
4. Planning and organizing plant, access, labor, and materials, including procurement activities.
5. Providing technical input for tenders and assisting with technical queries during the tender process.
6. Managing subcontracted work packages and ensuring deliverables are met.
7. Conducting progress meetings with subcontractors.
8. Identifying project risks and raising EWNs as needed.
9. Drafting site instructions with detailed descriptions, location, impact, and references.
10. Providing cost information and supporting the program with time estimates and MTOs.
11. Liaising with the Project or Contract Manager regarding project progress and risks.
12. Reviewing power distribution and protection system designs for LV & MV systems.
13. Specifying electrical distribution and control equipment.
14. Coordinating electrical engineering issues related to procurement, installation, and commissioning.
Who we're looking for
Essential qualities and experience:
* Previous Construction Engineering experience in relevant industries.
* Effective communication skills for managing relationships and team coordination.
* Leadership skills with experience leading teams and influencing others.
* Financial awareness and commitment to safety and sustainability.
* Ability to visit suppliers and monitor activities if required.
Desirable qualities and experience:
* Experience with Lean Construction principles and training.
* Participation in industry events.
* Membership in a professional body such as IET.
* Proficiency in O365.
* Valid driving license.
Preferred qualifications:
* Formal engineering/construction qualification (HNC/HND) or equivalent experience.
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ certification.
* CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
* CCNSG / HS&E MAPS certification.
