Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

Wayman Education is seeking a dedicated, organised, and creative Art Technician to join a thriving secondary school in Norwich on a full-time basis, with an immediate start available. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a well-established Art & Design department that is known for its dynamic teaching, high-quality student outcomes, and strong culture of creativity across all year groups.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the day-to-day functioning of the Art department, ensuring lessons are well-prepared, resources are easily accessible, and students can work in a safe, inspiring, and professionally managed studio environment. This role would be ideal for someone with an interest in the arts, strong practical skills, and a passion for supporting young people in developing their creative talents.

Role Responsibilities

As the Art Technician, you will support both teachers and students in a variety of ways, including:

* Preparing materials and equipment for Art lessons across KS3–KS4, including paints, pastels, clay, canvas, printmaking supplies, textiles, digital resources, and mixed media.

* Assisting with the maintenance, organisation, and safe storage of art materials, ensuring all classrooms and studio spaces remain clean, well-presented, and ready for use.

* Supporting students during practical lessons, offering guidance with processes such as painting techniques, clay work, printmaking, digital editing, and portfolio preparation.

* Helping to curate and mount displays of student artwork around the school, maintaining high visual standards and ensuring work is presented with care and professionalism.

* Managing stock levels effectively, monitoring usage patterns, organising bulk orders, and keeping accurate inventory records.

* Ensuring all equipment is used safely and following departmental procedures—including cleaning tools, maintaining studio spaces, managing drying racks, monitoring sharp equipment, and preparing classrooms for the next teaching session.

* Assisting with GCSE coursework organisation, including sketchbook preparation, presentation advice, and ensuring materials are available during controlled assessment periods.

* Supporting the planning and execution of exhibitions, open evenings, enrichment days, or art events held by the school.

* Collaborating closely with the Head of Art and wider department to ensure smooth and effective delivery of the curriculum.

School Information

This is a vibrant, supportive secondary school located in the heart of Norwich, with a well-resourced Art department that enjoys strong student participation and a positive reputation within the local area. The school’s leadership team places a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, professional courtesy, and collaborative working conditions. The Art department benefits from modern studio spaces, natural light, dedicated storage rooms, high-quality materials, and technicians who are valued as essential contributors to the subject’s success.

Students are enthusiastic, respectful, and eager to engage with creative subjects when provided with a welcoming and encouraging environment. Staff describe the school as friendly, stable, and committed to delivering high standards across the curriculum.

Experience and Qualifications

* Practical knowledge of Art materials, techniques, or creative processes

* Strong organisational and communication skills

* Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and support students

* A proactive, reliable, and positive approach to studio management

* School or studio experience is desirable but not essential

Training can be provided for the right candidate.
