SSEN Authorised Commissioning Engineer - 400/275/13kV Substations - SSEN & SPEN patches, Scotland, United Kingdom- £Excellent Day Rate - 12 Month Contract + Yearly Extensions - ASAP Start Date - Monday to Friday (45 Hours P/W) + Optional Weekend Work
My client, a leading M&E and T&D contractor with a strong presence across the UK and Ireland, are seeking an SSEN Authorised Commissioning Engineer to join their Transmission & Distribution division.
This role offers a secure, long-term contract working on key SSEN projects, with the added opportunity to gain SPEN authorisations through the client's internal programme (bypassing the standard waiting list), opening up even more project opportunities from January 2026 onwards.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and deliver the commissioning of HV substations and associated systems across SSEN projects.
* Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and test documentation.
* Perform functional testing, fault-finding, and verification of protection and control systems.
* Ensure all works comply with SSEN and UK DNO safety rules and standards.
* Liaise with project management, design, and construction teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
* Produce detailed commissioning reports, test results, and completion documentation.
* Support project handover and ensure all systems are energised safely and on schedule.
Requirements
* Current and valid SSEN Commissioning Authorisation (essential).
* Proven track record commissioning HV / EHV substations (typically 132kV–400kV).
* Strong understanding of protection relays, SCADA systems, and control panels.
* Demonstrated experience working under UK DNO / TO safety rules.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple commissioning packages concurrently.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
* Right to work in the UK and flexibility to travel between sites as required.
